Guernsey’s Student Business Challenge Market Comes to Market Square on Saturday 29 February
Saturday 29 February is Market Day for the Student Business Challenge in Market Square in St Peter Port. The market will run from 10.00 am until 1.00 pm and all the teams taking part in this year’s Challenge will be together selling their products and showcasing their businesses to the shoppers of St Peter Port.
The Channel Islands Student Business Challenge supports thirty teams of students from Guernsey Grammar School, La Mare de Carteret High School and St Sampson’s High School plus a further fifty teams from schools in Jersey to start-up and run their own businesses with an initial investment of £100 per team. The Challenge, sponsored by Barclays, EY and CPA Global, gives teams two months to develop their business acumen before facing a final “Dragon’s Den” where they will need to impress the judges with their abilities to run a profitable business and / or benefit the local community.
Liz Coffey, Executive Headteacher of Guernsey Secondary Schools, said “The teams have thrown themselves into the Challenge and Market Day gives them the chance to demonstrate what they have already learned about marketing and increasing their profits.”
Gordon Samson, CEO, Services at CPA Global said “We have been so impressed by the standard of the products we have already seen. We are looking forward to seeing them find new customers and sell their products on Market Day.”
This year’s contestants are trading from January to March and selling handmade craft items, mugs, key rings and gifts as they compete to become the Overall Winner of the Channel Islands Student Business Challenge 2020.
