Jersey Teams Take Over St Helier for Market Day on Saturday 7 March
Saturday 7 March is Market Day for the Student Business Challenge in St Helier from 10.00 am until 1.00 pm. The teams will be taking over St Helier as they sell their products and showcase their businesses to Jersey’s shoppers in the Central Market and Wests Centre as well as up and down King Street.
The Channel Islands Student Business Challenge supports fifty teams of students from six secondary schools in Jersey plus a further thirty teams from schools in Guernsey to start-up and run their own businesses with an initial investment of £100 per team. The participating Jersey schools are Beaulieu, Grainville, Haute Vallee, Jersey College for Girls, Les Quennevais and Victoria College.
The Challenge, sponsored by Barclays, EY and CPA Global, gives teams two months to develop their business acumen before facing a final “Dragon’s Den” where they will need to impress the judges with their abilities to run a profitable business and / or benefit the local community.
Carl Howarth, Principal, Jersey College for Girls said “The Challenge has now grown to be so big that the teams are taking over the whole of St Helier for Market Day. This hugely successful event allows the teams to demonstrate their hard work creating and marketing their products and gives them the opportunity to sell to new customers.”
Gordon Samson, CEO, Services at CPA Global said “We have been so impressed by the standard of the products we have already seen. We are looking forward to seeing them find new customers and sell their products on Market Day.”
This year’s contestants are trading from January to March and selling handmade craft items and gifts as they compete to become the Overall Winner of the Channel Islands Student Business Challenge 2020.
